'Blow' arrives midway through Beyoncé's 2013 self-titled album as a deliberate throwback, written and produced by Beyoncé and Pharrell Williams with additional contributions from Timbaland, J-Roc, James Fauntleroy, and Justin Timberlake. The track channels the slinking R&B-funk hybrids of Prince and Janet Jackson, moving carefully between rhythm and hip-hop textures with a seventies-eighties sheen.

The lyrical content is explicit and unapologetic, framed around oral sex with candy-coated metaphor and direct instruction.
