Beyoncé is celebrating 'B'Day' with her first new song in two years, ‘Morning Dew (Donk)’
New track launches 60-day countdown to 'B'Day' 20th anniversary edition.
About This Track
Beyoncé's 'Heartbeat' is a sparse, intimate account of loss. The song emerged as part of a documentary project in which she opened up about a deeply personal experience of miscarriage. What might have been a confessional becomes something more controlled; the lyrics circle a single image of absence, the missing pulse that gives the track its title and its ache. The song strips away arrangement to focus on voice and repetition. Beyoncé repeats the phrase "I'm longing for your heartbeat" as a kind of plea, whilst earlier lines catalogue the wreckage: love insufficient to endure, effort expended and exhausted, breath stolen. The emotional register is one of helplessness rather than anger, a numbness that the song's minimal production only deepens.
"Heartbeat" is a track by Beyoncé, released 17th February 2013. Full lyrics are available below. Dork has published 18 articles about Beyoncé.
