About This Track

'Thunderbolt' by Björk is a 2011 song from the album 'Biophilia'. The lyrics look outward from water’s edge, with cold, physical imagery, while the narrator’s thoughts whirl into desire and repeated questions about whether they crave miracles too often. There is a sense of restlessness and longing in the phrasing, capped by the blunt, cyclical hook about craving miracles. A second verse turns the focus to a “light shock”, keeping the atmosphere unsettled and impressionistic.

"Thunderbolt" is a track by Björk, from the album Biophilia, released 10th October 2011. Full lyrics are available below. Dork has published 4 articles about Björk.

Lyrics

Thunderbolt

[Verse 1]

Stirring at water's edge

Cold froth on my twig

My mind in whirls

Wanders around desire

[Chorus 1]

May I, can I, or have I too often

Craving miracles?

May I, can I, or have I too often now

Craving miracles?

Craving miracles?

[Verse 2]

No one imagines the light shock I need

And I'll never know

From whose hands, deeply humble

Dangerous gifts as such to mine come

[Chorus 2]

May I, should I, or have I too often

Craving miracles?

May I, can I, or have I too often

Craving miracles?

Craving miracles?

[Verse 3]

My romantic gene is dominant

And it hungers for union

Universal intimacy

All embracing

[Chorus 3]

May I, should I, or have I too often

Craved miracles?

May I, can I, or have I too often

Craved miracles?

Craved

[Verse 4]

Waves irregularly striking

Wind stern in my face

Thunderstorm, come

Scrape those barnacles of me!

[Chorus 4]

May I, may I, or should I too often

Crave miracles?

May I or should I or have I too often?

[Verse 5]

All my body parts are one

As lightning hits my spine

Sparkling

Prime runs through me

Revive my wish

I am inviolable

[Chorus 5]

May I, can I, or have I too often?

May I, can I, should I, or have I too often

Craving miracles?
