When the leviathan appeared on the beach

People came from near and far to admire it

Laughing, they ran their hands over its firm skin

And slapped its flanks to see the flies rise

They pushed deep into the fibers of

Its enormous mouth or climbed upon its back

While their friends took pictures

Everyone marveled at the beast's rutted chin

The way its flesh sagged and warmed in the sun

Many praised its dеcision to haul itself out of the water

Bеfore it perished, they wondered aloud

Did it harbor the same

The same regrets as a man waiting

For the poison he swallowed to take effect?
