About This Track

BoyWithUke examines the wreckage of a relationship fractured by infidelity and suspicion. The song moves through mounting evidence of betrayal: her laughter directed elsewhere, her whereabouts unaccounted for, a slip of the tongue that names another man. What begins as quiet observation hardens into accusation, the narrator caught between the need to confront and the paralysis of knowing the truth will end things. The production matches this emotional escalation with a restless energy. BoyWithUke's delivery alternates between measured verses and a chorus that collapses into something close to despair, the repeated refrain of being "problematic" and "semi-automatic" suggesting a man aware that his own behaviour has become reactive, destructive. The pre-chorus reaches for metaphors of release and burning, the language of someone who feels trapped by his own suspicions and the relationship's decay. By the final verse, the focus shifts inward: he has already decided to leave, already begun the work of convincing himself he is better off alone, even as he rehearses the hurt of her betrayal.

"Problematic" is a track by BoyWithUke, from the album Lucid Dreams, released 6th October 2023. Full lyrics are available below.

Lyrics

Problematic

[Verse 1]

Her laughter's for another, her motions are disguised

Her makeup doesn't cover what I see behind her eyes

Yes, I know that nothing's wrong, but what's the harm in asking, "Why?"

I know that you're not tired, where the fuck were you tonight?

[Pre-Chorus]

Baby, let me be, take my noose and set me free

Light my home on fire, take me higher than I wanna be

Baby, on my knees, beggin' for the sweet release

Let mе hear the choir full of liars, tell thеm I want peace

[Chorus]

I wish I wasn't problematic, I'm semi-automatic

I'm trying not to panic, panic

I'm burning bridges into ashes, light them up like matches

How could you understand it, 'stand it?

[Verse 2]

This morning‎ she skipped breakfast, said she was running late

Her actions turn her reckless, she began making mistakes

And I noticed something off about her cadence yesterday

She didn't even notice that she called me by his name‎

[Pre-Chorus]

Baby, let me be, take my noose and set me free

Light my home on fire, take me higher than I wanna be

Baby, on my knees, beggin' for the sweet release

Let me hear the choir full of liars, tell them I want peace

[Chorus]

I wish I wasn't problematic, I'm semi-automatic

I'm trying not to panic, panic

I'm burning bridges into ashes, light them up like matches

How could you understand it, 'stand it?

I wish I wasn't problematic, I'm semi-automatic

I'm trying not to panic, panic

I'm burning bridges into ashes, light them up like matches

How could you understand it, 'stand it?

[Verse 3]

Why did you love me so? Watch me as I let you go

Told you that I'm better off alone without you in my home

I let you in my heart and let you back into my arms

Fool for thinkin' we could make it fakin' every single part

[Pre-Chorus]

I thought that maybe you could be the final fucking remedy

The one to pull me out if I were ever stuck inside a dream

I'm lookin' back at times we had, the things we did and things we can't

How could you stab me in the back? I thought you were better than that

[Chorus]

I wish I wasn't problematic, I'm semi-automatic

I'm trying not to panic, panic

I'm burning bridges into ashes, light them up like matches

How could you understand it, 'stand it?

[Outro]

I wish I wasn't problematic (You could be), I'm semi-automatic (My remedy)

I'm trying not to panic (I'm stuck inside a dream), panic (The times we had)

I'm burning bridges into ashes (But now we can't), light them up like matches

How could you understand it (You stabbed me in the back), 'stand it?
