About This Track

'Everytime' appeared as the third single from 'In the Zone', Britney Spears' fourth studio album, released in March 2004. The track occupies the twelfth position on the record, which also housed 'Toxic' and the Madonna collaboration 'Me Against the Music'. The song is a piano-led apology, Spears adopting a voice of regret and dependence. 'I may have made it rain / Please, forgive me / My weakness caused you pain / And this song's my sorry,' she sings, the lyric framed as direct address to someone whose face she prays will fade. The recurring image of falling without wings anchors the chorus, the metaphor simple and the delivery unadorned. Co-written by Spears with Brian Kierulf, Joshua Schwartz, and Kara DioGuardi, 'Everytime' marked a quieter moment on an album otherwise built for clubs and radio rotation. The vulnerability is performed rather than confessional, but the restraint holds.
