About This Track
'Empty Shell' by Cat Power is a 2006 song about heartbreak and being left with the emotional wreckage of love. The lyrics frame a collapse of feeling, where the heart is “crushed”, and shift into a bitter, sleepless loneliness. There is an image of trying to carry on while confronted with a partner’s new involvement, including the humiliating domestic closeness of sitting on someone’s lap, along with the need to pretend and perform normality. The tone is raw and confessional, moving from inward devastation to outward observation of betrayal.
"Empty Shell" is a track by Cat Power, released 20th January 2006. Full lyrics are available below. Dork has published 3 articles about Cat Power.
