Cavetown's 'Dear' confronts the weight of unspoken struggle. Everyone carries something they cannot name, the song suggests, whether it manifests as tears at the sink, a refusal to meet your eye, or the darker thought that arrives unbidden. The track moves between observation and confession, naming the small betrayals and the larger silences that accumulate in a life. The chorus pivots inward. Cavetown sings of screaming internally, of not wanting to wake, of needing to feel something, anything, to know they are still present. It is a song about the gap between what shows and what churns beneath, and the exhaustion of maintaining that distance. The lyrics acknowledge that struggle is not solitary, even when it feels that way, and that paying attention to others' pain requires the same care we might extend to ourselves.
