‘Guilty’ by Cavetown is a 2021 pop track from the album ‘Man’s Best Friend’. The lyrics dwell on a strained, transactional kind of affection, with the speaker alternately resisting and complying, then returning to the same routine. There is a darkly comic insistence on being trapped in repetition, culminating in the line about an archaeology, as if the relationship can be unearthed but not escaped. The tone is resentful, yet weary, and the whole thing hinges on the question of blame, with one short admission framed as “I’m guilty”.
