A plea for emotional support wrapped in the language of compartmentalisation. Cavetown sorts feelings into categories, arranging them like playing cards, but the system breaks down when confronted with genuine crisis. The song moves between metaphor and direct address, asking a friend to stay present whilst admitting the weight of that ask. The chorus strips away the imagery. "I promise I'm trying" becomes both reassurance and confession, a statement that effort itself might have to suffice when everything else fails. There's no resolution here, only the acknowledgment of a bump in the road and the hope that trying counts for something. It's a re-recorded version of an earlier song, refined but retaining its core vulnerability.
"Trying" is a track by Cavetown, from the album Sleepyhead, released 27th March 2020. The track is 4:20 long. It's filed under Pop. Full lyrics are available below. Dork has published 20 articles about Cavetown.

Before their 2026 single ‘Sailboat’, Chloe Moriondo and Cavetown had already collaborated through acoustic performances, recorded releases, a Wheatus cover and an untitled social-media performance.

The upcoming album 'Running With Scissors' drops later this month.

"It’s finally being unveiled at just the right time," comments Cavetown.
