Ο. OG

'Ο. OG' opens Damso's album with a minute and forty seconds of compressed intensity. The track moves quickly through a single verse, its rhythm taut and propulsive, anchored by a minimal instrumental that lets the vocal sit forward in the mix. Damso's delivery is direct and unadorned, the language raw and colloquial, cycling through a series of declarations about money, survival, and the weight of the world he inhabits. The song establishes a tone of refusal. When asked why his music dwells in darkness, Damso suggests the answer itself would be unbearable to hear. There is no redemption offered here, no softening of the edges. The hook, a repeated "Ouh, ouh, ouh, OG", is less a melody than a punctuation mark, a sound that closes each thought before the next one arrives. It is the sound of someone who has decided not to explain himself further.
