About This Track

The second track from 'CASE STUDY 01' leans heavily into Daniel Caesar's Jamaican heritage, performed predominantly in Patois with reggae textures threading through the production. Jordan Evans handled production duties, shaping a sound that moves between dancehall swing and Caesar's usual R&B drift. Kardinal Offishall opens and punctuates the track with ad-libs that anchor the song's cultural reference points, whilst Caesar himself toggles between devotional intimacy and self-aware contradiction. The lyrics map desire as something chemically altered and spiritually confused. Caesar invokes both Jah and LSD in the same breath, framing love as a force that weakens and compels in equal measure. He admits to being 'not a monster, just a man with needs', a line that sits uncomfortably against the song's sweeter declarations.
