Where to start with FKA twigs, from EP1 to EUSEXUA Afterglow
A route through FKA twigs’ EPs, albums and mixtape, from the spare experiments of EP1 to the distinct continuation of EUSEXUA Afterglow.
About This Track
Daniel Caesar and serpentwithfeet examine the weight of existential dread on 'Disillusioned', a track that finds both artists circling the same anxieties. Caesar opens by observing someone caught between resignation and resistance, someone who finds life a drag but cannot quite surrender to it. The song moves quickly past diagnosis into proposition: maybe shared vulnerability could become something else, a reason to try again. serpentwithfeet's verse shifts the dynamic. Where Caesar saw struggle, he notices small signs of recovery, a person who has cleaned their space and started to invite others in. His delivery carries warmth without sentimentality, a genuine plea to stay rather than disappear into the aesthetic of suffering. The chorus returns to the central tension, the fear of ageing and the possibility that two people afraid of the same things might find strength in that recognition. The outro abandons introspection for movement. Caesar sketches a vision of escape that is neither reckless nor escapist but simply alive: driving to nowhere in particular, watching the world pass, finding a quiet place to be together. It is a small rebellion against the disillusioned posture that opened the song, a reminder that cynicism and tenderness need not be enemies.
