Daniel Caesar builds 'Paradise' around a tension between material ambition and spiritual doubt. The track opens with a spoken intro that sets the stakes: survival, money, the refusal to be paralysed by stress. Caesar's own verses trace a lineage of conflict, from his father's disappointment to his own wrestling with faith and forgiveness. He doesn't resolve the contradiction; instead he inhabits it, cycling through the chorus refrain that frames this life as something chosen, something earned through labour. Sean Leon's verse sharpens the moral arithmetic. He sketches a figure caught between competing versions of devotion: the woman left at the altar, the God worshipped like the self, the hundred verses written in place of Sunday service. The production, credited to Jordan Evans and Matthew Burnett alongside Caesar, sits in a space between restraint and pressure, letting the voices breathe whilst the rhythmic pulse tightens around them. What emerges is not a sermon but a conversation, one that refuses easy answers about what it means to build something for yourself.
"Paradise" is a track by Daniel Caesar, from the album Pilgrim’s Paradise, released 14th October 2015. Full lyrics are available below.
