Daughter - Stereo Mind Game
Daughter create a world of their own on new album, 'Stereo Mind Game'.
About This Track
'Shallows' closes Daughter's debut album with a plea born of catastrophe. Elena Tonra's voice moves through verses of submersion and collapse, water rising, ground cracking, the world ending in increments. The song is about death, but it is also about the refusal to face it alone. The chorus returns obsessively to a single request: find me in the shallows, a geography of last resort where two people might still touch. The production holds back, letting repetition do the work. Tonra sings the same phrases again and again, watching stars collide, lying on her back, the words becoming a kind of incantation or prayer. By the final minute the song has narrowed to its core images, cycling through them until they feel less like metaphor than fact. It is a closing track that does not console, but it does not abandon either.
