Coltrane

Time after time the man's swept to the side

Painted by a tainted brush he left behind

You should have seen his eyes

And the pain inside

That hides behind a smile

No I'm not standing here making excuses

For another man's mistakes that shrouded the years

Though I think it's time my resentment resigned

10 years of living in the fast lane

How it hurt so much to see it

Yeah, hindsight's a funny thing

Something I can't believe in

Twenty years have gone by since you painted the sky

A darker shade of grey that I wasn't use to seeing

Then my preoccupated mind found solace in the wires

Of another man's confusion

Easing my bruising

Thank god he made me smile

Because I was only a child

10 years of living in the fast lane

How it hurt so much to see it

Yeah, hindsight's a funny thing

Something I can't believe in

A story older than a Coltrane

Another standard completing

And now the melody has broken in

Though the sounds won't be repeating
