About This Track

Fireboy DML enlists his YBNL boss Olamide for 'Afar', a track built on the tension between success and the suspicion it breeds. The song pivots on a simple, repeated refrain: make them love me from afar. It's a posture of deliberate distance, a choice to keep the world at arm's length rather than invite it close enough to steal or sabotage what has been built. Fireboy's verses sketch the paranoia that comes with having something worth protecting. He moves carefully through his own life, aware that proximity breeds risk. Olamide's contribution sharpens the theme into something harder; he names the types who circle success, the two-faced operators and insecure hangers-on, and dismisses them with the clarity of someone who has already paid the price of trust. The production by iamBeatz sits somewhere between Afrolife and hip-hop, giving the track room to breathe between its moments of intensity.
