About This Track

'Chicago' by flipturn is an alternative track from the EP 'Heavy Colors - EP', released in 2017. The lyrics sketch people performing an identity, telling themselves they will escape, then admitting they never quite get free. The narrator frames the fantasy place as 'Chicago', somewhere they do not really know, while reaching for the promise of something brighter, symbolised by the sun. The song’s language balances restless momentum with a stay put truth, turning daydream travel into a mirror for self-deception.

"Chicago" is a track by flipturn, from the album Heavy Colors - EP, released 30th March 2017. The track is 5:20 long. It's filed under Alternative. Full lyrics are available below. Dork has published 3 articles about flipturn.

Lyrics

Chicago

We all play pretend
Like it's something that is real
Like we want to get away
Learn how we can feel
Well, different air
From what we already breathe
So we tell ourselves we'll go, go, go
But we never ever leave, whoa

I'm going to Chicago
Somewhere I don't really know
See the sun rise on the east coast
See it set in San Francisco
I'll get high in Colorado
With some folks I don't even know
Who knows where I'll be tomorrow
But I'm going to Chicago

Well, now our friends all tell us how
They feel trapped with no control
They say one day they'll get out
And break their parent's mould
But it's been ten years now
And they're still married living in
A big fancy house
With some attorney and three kids, whoa

I'm going to Chicago
Somewhere I don't really know
See the sun rise on the east coast
See it set in San Francisco
I'll get high in Colorado
With some folks I don't even know
Who knows where I'll be tomorrow
But I'm going to Chicago

This doesn't feel, this doesn't feel quite right
This strange I get feels like 'twas tied too tight
This doesn't feel, this doesn't feel quite right
This strange I get feels like 'twas tied too tight

I'm going to Chicago (this doesn't feel, this doesn't feel quite right)
Somewhere I don't really know
See the sun rise on the east coast (this strange I get feels like 'twas tied too tight)
See it set in San Francisco
I'll get high in Colorado (this doesn't feel, this doesn't feel quite right)
With some folks I don't even know
Who knows where I'll be tomorrow (this strange I get feels like 'twas tied too tight)
But I'm going to Chicago

I'm going to Chicago
Somewhere I don't really know
See the sun rise on the east coast
See it set in San Francisco
I'll get high in Colorado
With some folks I don't even know
Who knows where I'll be tomorrow
But I'm going to Chicago
