About This Track

'Stepson' by Foals is a 2013 alternative track from the album 'Holy Fire'. The lyrics speak in urgent, maternal terms, urging someone to “fall into the blue” and promising to come down for them, while the singer admits to slipping into a deeper state. The repeated imagery of falling and being led by the hand gives the song a hypnotic, tightening sense of pursuit and surrender, with the vocal phrasing matching the insistence of the steps implied in the title.

"Stepson" is a track by Foals, from the album Holy Fire, released 31st January 2013. The track is 4:49 long. It's filed under Alternative. Full lyrics are available below. Dork has published 20 articles about Foals.

Lyrics

Stepson

Step by aching stepson
And you'll fall into the blue
And you'll fall into the blue
Oh, I'm coming down for you

Step by aching stepson
And I'll lead you by the hand
And we'll fall into the blue
Oh, I'm coming down for you
Oh, I'm coming down for you

But I'm falling deeper now I go
And I'm falling down the grounds beneath the road
And I'm falling deeper down I go
And I'm falling deeper now I know

And I'm falling deeper down the shore
And I'm falling as the rocks way down below
As the rocks way down below
As the rocks way down below

Step by aching stepson
And you'll fall into the blue
And you'll fall into the blue
Oh, I'm coming down for you

Step by aching stepson
And I'll lead you by the hand
And we'll fall into the blue
Oh, I'm coming down for you

Oh, I'm coming down for you
Coming down for you
Coming down for you
Coming down for you
Coming down for you
Coming down for you
Coming down for you
Coming down for you
Coming down for you

Why Paramore handed ‘This Is Why’ to Remi Wolf, Foals and Bleachers

Paramore’s ‘Re: This Is Why’ was built on an unusually direct brief: let collaborators take the songs somewhere genuinely their own.
