Yard Act
Flood, the working name of Mark Ellis, is an English producer and engineer whose career reads like a map of forward-looking rock and electronic music from the 1980s onward. Born in 1960, he made his name as an engineer on records by Depeche Mode and U2 before becoming a producer of rare ambition, working with Nine Inch Nails, The Smashing Pumpkins, Nick Cave and The Bad Seeds, PJ Harvey, Erasure, Sigur Ros, Warpaint, Goldfrapp and The Killers. He is known for an experimental, texture-first sensibility, treating the studio as an instrument and pushing artists toward darker, stranger and more atmospheric places. Often partnered with Alan Moulder, Flood shared in an Album of the Year Grammy for his work with U2, and remains one of the most influential British producers of his generation, a quiet architect behind several genuinely era-defining records.
