About This Track
Dave Grohl wrote and performed 'Big Me' entirely by himself during the project's earliest days. The song originated in Grohl's time with Nirvana, played during their final studio session alongside 'You Know You're Right'. It carries the weight of that moment, a piece of unfinished business that found new life when Foo Fighters began. The track moves through cycles of confession and doubt. Grohl sings of talking something through, of reasons known only in hindsight, of falling into something inescapable. The lyrics circle back on themselves, repeating and shifting slightly, as if the act of speaking about it changes nothing and everything at once. It's a song about the gap between explanation and understanding, between what you say and what actually happened. Released as a single, 'Big Me' became a crossover moment for the band on pop radio, reaching number thirteen on the Billboard Hot 100 Airplay chart in spring 1996. What might have remained a private moment of artistic reckoning became something the wider world could hear.
"Big Me" is a single by Foo Fighters, from the album Foo Fighters, released 3rd July 1995. The track is 2:13 long. It's filed under Alternative. Full lyrics are available below. Dork has published 17 articles about Foo Fighters.
