The day was nearly over
They were hosing down the house
They caught sight of her poor body
In the rushes and the mud

She lay where she had fallen
They had hunted high and low
But winter had come early
And she had been covered up by snow

It took an hour to cut her
From the spot where she was found
A bright red velvet ribbon
Was tangled in her gown

Her skin was icy white
Her veins were thin and blue
There was black ink on her fingers
And blood on her toes and her shoes

Bees made honey upon her lips
Lips I've waited so long to kiss
She seemed so pure without a doubt
'Til the last red drop leaked out
