What Gorillaz’ ‘Cracker Island’ deluxe edition adds, track by track
The 2023 deluxe edition adds three new Gorillaz collaborations, plus a piano version of ‘Silent Running’ and a remix of ‘New Gold’.
About This Track
The second single from Gorillaz's 2005 album 'Demon Days', 'Dare' features Happy Mondays and Black Grape frontman Shaun Ryder alongside lead vocals provided by Rosie Wilson, voicing the band's animated guitarist Noodle. The track's hypnotic repetition and minimal lyric structure build around the central refrain, Ryder's delivery turning the title into something between instruction and invitation.
Released in July 2005, the song layers Wilson's breathy vocal over a sparse electronic pulse, the words looping and fragmenting until the meaning sits somewhere between dance-floor exhortation and studio abstraction. The production holds back, letting the rhythm and the mantra-like vocal carry the track's insistent forward motion.
"Dare" is a single by Gorillaz, released 19th August 2005. The track is 4:05 long. Full lyrics are available below. Dork has published 20 articles about Gorillaz.

A year of writing, a decision to lower the guard, and a willingness to follow new reference points reshaped Sunflower Bean’s second album.

Gorillaz’ live history was not a sudden reveal. Across three album eras, Damon Albarn and Jamie Hewlett adjusted the balance between animation, musicians and guest performers.

Damon Albarn held a Palestinian flag aloft during Gorillaz’s opening US date in Orlando, telling the crowd: “Stand your position. Don’t ever be neutral.”
