About This Track

A nuclear dawn breaks across the intro as John Carpenter's voice delivers a final transmission: the city is burning, hope is dead, and all that remains is love. 'Tech Noir' anchors itself in that contradiction, a synthwave track that builds its emotional weight from apocalypse. The song moves between Carpenter's spoken-word framing and a more intimate lyrical space, where a narrator asks someone to leave the world with them. "Steady as we burn / It was all for love" becomes the refrain that holds the piece together, a declaration that matters precisely because everything else is falling apart. The production sits in that liminal space between 1980s film score and club floor. Synthesizers move with precision and restraint; the rhythm stays measured even as the stakes climb. Lyrically, the song doesn't dwell in catastrophe for its own sake. Instead it uses nuclear threat as a frame for something more intimate: the question of whether another person will stay close when the world ends. That tension between the vast and the personal, between Carpenter's apocalyptic narration and the song's quiet plea, gives 'Tech Noir' its particular pull.

Lyrics

Tech Noir

[Intro: John Carpenter]

I'm recording this, because this could be the last thing I'll ever say

The city I once knew as home is teetering on the edge of radioactive oblivion

A three-hundred thousand degree baptism by nuclear fire

I'm not sorry; we had it coming

A surge of white-hot atonement will be our wake-up call

Hope for our future is now a stillborn dream

The bombs begin to fall and I'm rushing to meet my love

Please, remember me

There is no more

[Verse 1]

Feel the breeze, I feel alive

Will you come away with me?

[Pre-Chorus]

You'll be my focus

Could this be, could this be the highway?

[Chorus]

Before you save me

Just wait your turn, look at me now

Steady as we burn

It was all for love

Just move yourself, drop it back down

And push it out in front

[Verse 2]

Keep your heart out on the road

Will you come to Tech Noir with me?

[Pre-Chorus]

You'll be my focus

Could this be, could this be the highway?

[Chorus]

Before you save me

Just wait your turn, look at me now

Steady as we burn

It was all for love

Just move yourself, drop it back down

And push it out in front

[Bridge]

Guided by voices

It's you and me

[Chorus]

Before you save me

Just wait your turn, look at me now

Steady as we burn

It was all for love

Just move yourself, drop it back down

And push it out in front
