About This Track

'Falling' opens Days Are Gone with a portrait of surrender. The song builds around a central tension: the pull of voices calling from below, the weight of expectation pressing down, and the speaker's slow descent into their grip. Haim constructs the track as a series of escalations, each verse deepening the sense of inevitability, each chorus a mantra of resistance that rings increasingly hollow. The repetition of the title phrase becomes both cry and acceptance, a loop that tightens rather than resolves. The production mirrors this emotional architecture. Synths rise and fall in waves; drums arrive with gathering force. By the final third, the song has built into something hypnotic, the layered vocals of the three sisters creating a kind of chorus within the chorus, voices multiplying until the distinction between the caller and the called-to collapses. It is a bold opening statement: not a hook designed to lodge itself immediately, but a song that works through accumulation and texture, trusting the listener to surrender to its logic.

"Falling" is a single by Haim, from the album Days Are Gone, released 26th September 2013. The track is 4:18 long. It's filed under Rock. Full lyrics are available below. Dork has published 20 articles about Haim.

Lyrics

Falling

I give a little
Into the moment like
I'm standing at the edge

I know
That no one's gonna turn me around
Just one more step, I could let go

Oh and in the middle
I hear the voices
And they're calling for me now

I know
And nothing's gonna wake me now
'Cause I'm a slave to the sound
And they're calling

Don't stop, no, I'll never give up
And I'll never look back
Just hold your head up

And if it gets rough
It's time to get rough
They keep saying

Don't stop, no one's ever enough
I'll never look back, never give up
And if it gets rough, it's time to get rough
(Oh)

But now
I'm falling, falling, falling
Falling, falling, falling
Falling, falling, falling, oh

Now we're going down, ah
And I can feel the eyes
Are watching us so closely, oh

I'm trying not to make a sound
'Cause I'll be found out somehow
So keep calling

Don't stop, no, I'll never give up
And I'll never look back
Just hold your head up

And if it gets rough
It's time to get rough, ah
They keep saying

Don't stop, no one's ever enough
I'll never look back, never give up
And if it gets rough, it's time to get rough
(But now I'm falling)

Into the fire feeling higher than the truth
(I'm falling)
I can feel the heat but I'm not burning
(But now I'm falling)

Feeling desire, feeling tired, hungry too
(I'm falling)
Feels like I'm falling, yeah
I can hear them calling
(But now I'm falling)

Into the fire feeling higher than the truth
(I'm falling)
I can feel the heat but I'm not burning
(But now I'm falling)

Feeling desire, feeling tired, hungry too
(I'm falling)
Feels like I'm falling, yeah
I can hear them calling
(Now I'm falling)

I'm falling, falling, falling
Falling, falling, falling
Falling, falling, falling, oh

And now
I'm falling, falling, falling
Falling, falling, falling
Falling, falling, falling, oh

Falling, falling
Falling, falling
Falling

But now
I'm falling, falling, falling
Falling, falling
Oh, and now I'm falling

Into the fire feeling higher than the truth
(But now I'm falling)
I can feel the heat but I'm not burning
(I'm falling)

Feeling desire, feeling tired, hungry too
(But now I'm falling)
Feels like I'm falling, yeah
I can hear them calling
(Fire)

Into the fire feeling higher than the truth
(But now I'm falling)
I can feel the heat but I'm not burning
(I'm falling)

Feeling desire, feeling tired, hungry too
(But now I'm falling)
Feels like I'm falling, yeah
I can hear them calling

Never look back, never give up
Never look back, never give up
Never look back, never give up
I'll never give up, I'll never give up
(But now I'm falling)

Never look back, never give up
Never look back, never give up
(I'm falling)
Never look back, never give up
I'll never give up, I'll never give up
(But now I'm falling)

Never look back, never give up
Never look back, never give up
(I'm falling)
Never look back, never give up
I'll never give up, I'll never give up
(But now I'm falling)

Never look back, never give up
Never look back, never give up
(I'm falling)
Never look back, never give up
I'll never give up, I'll never give up
(But now I'm falling)

Never look back, never give up
Never look back, never give up
Never look back, never give up
I'll never give up, I'll never give up

Never look back, never give up
Never look back, never give up
Never look back, never give up
I'll never give up, I'll never give up
