About This Track

Halsey's debut single, released first on SoundCloud in February 2014 and officially through Astralwerks that July, announces a voice already fluent in the language of hollow intimacy. The narrator pursues a type: leather-clad, emotionally unavailable, quick with white lies and quicker goodbyes. She knows the pattern and follows it anyway, tugging at sleeves even as she swears she hates the leaving. The chorus frames disconnection as haunting. 'Where'd you go?' Halsey asks, searching for a soul in the body beside her, the question hanging over a relationship that exists in corridors and weekends but never quite solidifies. The EP that followed, 'Room 93', arrived in October 2014; a revised version of 'Ghost' was later folded into her debut album 'Badlands' the following year, carrying the song's central tension forward: the pull towards people who feel like absences even when they're present.

"Ghost" is a single by Halsey, from the album Room 93, released 27th October 2014. The track is 2:33 long. It's filed under Alternative. Full lyrics are available below. Dork has published 15 articles about Halsey.

Lyrics

Ghost

I'm searching
For something
That I can't reach

I don't like them innocent
I don't want no face fresh
Want them wearing leather
Begging, let me be your taste test"
I like the sad eyes, bad guys
Mouth full of white lies
Kiss me in the corridor
But quick to tell me goodbye

You say that you're no good for me
'Cause I'm always tugging at your sleeve
And I swear I hate you when you leave
But I like it anyway

My ghost
Where'd you go?
I can't find you in the body sleeping next to me

My ghost
Where'd you go?
What happened to the soul that you used
To be?

You're a Rolling Stone boy
Never sleep alone boy
Got a million numbers
And they're filling up your phone, boy
I'm off the deep end, sleeping
All night through the weekend
Saying that I love him but
I know I'm gonna leave him

You say that you're no good for me
'Cause I'm always tugging at your sleeve
And I swear I hate you when you leave
But I like it anyway

My ghost
Where'd you go?
I can't find you in the body sleeping next to me

My ghost
Where'd you go?
What happened to the soul that you used
To be?

I'm searching
For something
That I can't reach

My ghost
Where'd you go?
I can't find you in the body sleeping next to me

My ghost
Where'd you go?
What happened to the soul that you used
To be?
