About This Track

'Hurricane' opens Halsey's debut EP 'Room 93', released as a promotional single in October 2014 through Astralwerks Records. The track later reappeared as a bonus cut on the deluxe edition of her debut album 'Badlands', one of only two songs from the EP to make that crossing. The song sets a scene in Bed-Stuy, Brooklyn, where Halsey sketches an encounter with a predatory older man before pulling back and claiming the chaos for herself. She writes herself as the wanderess, the one-night stand, the violence in the pouring rain, refusing to belong to any city or any man. The bridge flips the script: he begs her to save him, to devastate him, whilst she holds the power to fade him out entirely. Co-written with Tim Anderson, it establishes the restless, self-mythologising voice that would define much of her early work.
