About This Track

'Burn' by Hinds is an alternative track from the album 'The Prettiest Curse', released in 2020. The lyrics pivot around reluctant attachment, asking to be taught how to feel without losing control, and treating emotion as something that “might be burning”. There is also a defensive, self-aware edge as the narrator admits they have felt attacked, then frames their honesty as a kind of rebuttal. The overall mood is intimate but volatile, with affection and self-protection circling each other.

"Burn" is a track by Hinds, from the album The Prettiest Curse, released 4th June 2020. The track is 2:54 long. It's filed under Alternative. Full lyrics are available below. Dork has published 13 articles about Hinds.

Lyrics

Burn

Take my heart 'cause I don't want it
Teach me how to feel without it
Watch it 'cause it might be burning
Have it 'cause I can't afford it

I came here to let you know, well, if you think that I'm bad
Alright, hon', yeah, you're probably right
I used to feel attacked
I would have started a fight in the bus to change your mind

But nowadays I'm wiser, my brother's so proud
I'm juggling tequila shots, sadness and reggaeton nights
The worse they talk about me, the more it makes you hard
Patience made me stronger than you

Take my heart 'cause I don't want it
Teach me how to feel without it
Watch it 'cause it might be burning
Have it 'cause I can't afford it

That's right, I did almost lose control
Tried to play the role, fit in my mold
Yeah, and now, I'm here and I see clear
I cut my tears and killed those fears

I wanna tell my girls how are we fighting in this man's world
Yeah, we wanna have fun but not to follow your plan
Remember the day he tried to make you behave?
We didn't come here to please you, my dear

Take my heart 'cause I don't want it
Teach me how to feel without it
Watch it 'cause it might be burning
Have it 'cause I can't afford it

Take my heart 'cause I don't want it
Teach me how to feel without it
Watch it 'cause it might be burning
Have it 'cause I can't afford it

Why Hinds made Charli xcx and Lorde’s ‘Girl, so confusing’ part of their own story

Hinds’ cover turned Charli xcx and Lorde’s collaboration into a reflection on more than a decade of comparisons, insecurity and making music as a girl band.
