About This Track

'Down' by Hot Chip is a 2022 Pop track from the album 'Freakout / Release'. The lyrics focus on going “down” to the ground, with a repeated, insistently physical momentum, and a taunting, directive tone as the singer urges someone to keep working until they get what they need. A lot of the hook is built on the refrain that returns to the same downward image, tightening the song into a loop of command and release, capped by a direct address that keeps the energy blunt and immediate.

"Down" is a track by Hot Chip, from the album Freakout / Release, released 18th August 2022. The track is 3:52 long. It's filed under Pop. Full lyrics are available below. Dork has published 6 articles about Hot Chip.

Lyrics

Down

Down
To the ground, baby
You sure know how to break it on down
To the ground, baby
Down
To the ground, baby
You sure know how to break it on down
To the ground, baby
Girl, know how to break it on down

You've got to work me until you get what you need
(Girl, know how to break it on down)
You've got to work it until it breaks, don't you see?
(Girl, know how to break it on down)
You've got to work me until I'm starting to bleed
(Girl, know how to break it on down)
Reset, erase me 'til I lose sight of my dreams
(Girl, know how to break it on down)

You've got to need me 'cause I mean nothing to me
(Girl, know how to break it on down)
You've got to work me into the dust you can't see
(Girl, know how to break it on down)

I'm on the edge of just screaming
Screaming out your name
But then I know that I'm dreaming
Dreaming my life away
Well, someone just had to stop me
Take me out of the frame

(Girl, know how to break it on down)
(Girl, know how to break it on down)

All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy, oh, boy
(Girl, know how to break it on down)
But if this is working, it makes my play null and void
(Girl, know how to break it on down)
Until I met you, I never worked for one day
(Girl, know how to break it on down)

But now we're working, this work is starting to pay
(Girl, know how to break it on down)
You've got to use me until I run out of juice
(Girl, know how to break it on down)
But don't replace me, maybe a screw has come loose

I'm on the edge of just screaming
Screaming out your name
But then I know that I'm dreaming
Dreaming my life away
Well, someone just had to stop me
Take me out of the frame
(Down)
(To the ground, baby)

Break it down, don't bring me down, my baby
Break it down, right to the ground, my love
Break it down, don't bring me down, my baby
Break it down, right to the ground, my love
(Girl, know how to break it on down)
