About This Track
Released through Interscope and Kidinakorner on 11th March 2022 as the lead single from Imagine Dragons' fifth studio album 'Mercury – Acts 1 & 2', 'Bones' finds Dan Reynolds wrestling with mortality and the search for permanence. The frontman has described the track as a reflection of his constant obsession with the finality and fragility of life, always in search of evidence that there is more to come, that life is truly eternal in some sense. Having yet to find that proof, he tries at least to dream of what conquering death would feel like. The song channels that existential restlessness into a defiant chorus, Reynolds insisting there's magic in his bones even as vultures circle and flames burn. The production pairs stark self-examination with a driving, anthemic framework, the lyrics moving between bathroom-mirror introspection and the image of a boulder hurtling forward, turning pages of a life walked by millions before. The track became the band's ninth song to gain one billion streams on Spotify and was RIAA platinum certified on 11th October of the same year.
