About This Track

'Only' finds Jelly Roll wrestling with the paradox of self-destruction as comfort. The track circles a single, darkening idea: that wrongdoing feels like the only place where he can function, where the weight lifts. Across verses that invoke addiction, spiritual doubt, and the possibility of surrender, he returns to that refrain with the force of compulsion, each repetition tightening the knot. The production, courtesy of THOMASTONER with additional keys from Ethan, sits spare and heavy, letting the vocal repetition do the work. There is no escape offered here, no redemptive turn. Instead, the song maps the geography of someone trapped between the dream of oblivion and the fear of waking to a life he cannot bear. It is bleak work, and it does not flinch.
