Joji pairs her voice with producer Clams Casino on 'NITROUS', a track built around the metaphor of speed and emotional numbness. The song moves with an upbeat tempo, its beat propulsive, whilst the lyrics sketch a portrait of someone moving too fast to feel anything at all. References to motorcycles and driving fold into the emotional register: love, pain, and connection all blur into sensation without consequence. She sings of being "out of sight", of insides "loud like motorcycles", of sitting in a Rover where nothing can touch her. The refrain is simple and insistent, a mantra of dissociation.
