About This Track

A slow-burning ballad from Joji's debut album, 'WANTED U' features a guitar solo performed by Korean-Japanese guitarist MIYAVI, who joined Joji onstage at the Head in the Clouds Festival in September 2018. The track was first performed during the 88rising Asian Tour at House Manila in December 2017, nearly a year before the album's release in October 2018. The lyrics trace a state of emotional suspension, the narrator caught between self-loathing and longing. Joji sings of waiting a lifetime to recognise desire, the admission arriving late and tangled with regret. The imagery moves from fracture to suffocation, a plea for patience threaded through lines about punishment and survival. The guitar work lifts the song beyond its confessional core, the solo cutting through the haze with a clarity the words resist.

"WANTED U" is a track by Joji, from the album BALLADS 1, released 25th October 2018. The track is 4:11 long. It's filed under R&B/Soul. Full lyrics are available below.

Lyrics

WANTED U

Here I am
Torn into a thousand shapes and folds
Torn into a thousand ways, I know (I know)
Fornicate inside your broken arms
Before I throw a smile your way, no more
I can't tell
If all my answers correlate at all
I'm telling you a thousand things, I know
I've been missing a long time
To know I had to move
I've been waiting my whole life
To know I wanted you
Are you feeling me slowly?
You can take your fucking time
And I promise I won't lie
Make it out alive
I'm on trial
I'm not so good at hiding loathsome truths
You see it on my face when I turn blue
So punish me, I'm hanging on your noose
So pull me up so I can breathe with you
I know
I've been missing a long time
To know I had to move
I've been waiting my whole life
To know I wanted you
Are you feeling me slowly?
You can take your fucking time
And I promise I won't lie
Make it out alive
Ah, ah, ah, ah
