About This Track

'Fireworks' by JOSEPH is an alternative track from the album 'The Sun' (2023). The lyrics move through a love-song hangover and a blunt unease about chasing happiness, with repeated doubts over how long waiting might last. It also skews towards financial and lifestyle pressure, as the speaker resists the idea of simply “settling” in the way others seem to expect, likening it to an easy fantasy sold by television. The overall stance is restless and self-protective, more concerned with what cannot be bought than with the dream being marketed.

"Fireworks" is a single by JOSEPH, from the album The Sun, released 27th April 2023. The track is 3:18 long. It's filed under Alternative. Full lyrics are available below.

Lyrics

Fireworks

All these love songs
Love songs might be no good for me
Keep on sellin' the dream
I wonder, how long?
How long will I wait to be happy?
All my friends ask me

When am I gonna be settled down?
Buy a house, stay in town?
Like it's easy, like people on TV
I don't wanna just settle now
Put my fire underground
Just 'cause it's easy, oh
Honey, believe me

I wish I could just flip a switch
And just accept your kind of muted bliss
'Cause I don't wanna be holdin' out forever
Oh, and if my type is just fireworks
An act of faith, even though it hurts
To shut that door, am I holdin' out forever?

What if I'm wrong?
Wrong to think there's more to this story
My heart pounds and they know me
Am I headstrong?
Or foolish every night waiting for lightning to strike
While you've got blue skies?

Oh, I wish I could just flip a switch
And just accept your kind of muted bliss
'Cause I don't wanna be holdin' out forever
Oh, and if my type is just fireworks
An act of faith, even though it hurts
To shut that door, am I holdin' out forever?
Am I holdin' out forever?

When am I gonna be settled down?
Buy a house, stay in town?
Like it's easy, like people on TV
I don't wanna just settle now
Put my fire underground
Just 'cause it's easy, oh
Honey, believe me

I wish I could just flip a switch
And just accept your kind of muted bliss
'Cause I don't wanna be holdin' out forever
Oh, and if my type is just fireworks
An act of faith, even though it hurts
To shut that door, am I holdin' out forever?
Am I holdin' out forever?
