About This Track
Juice WRLD confronts rapid, destabilising change across 'Doom'. The track moves between defiance and vulnerability as he processes sudden wealth, romantic attachment, and substance use. He positions himself as unmoved by social pressure ("I ain't playing by your rules"), yet the song's emotional core lies elsewhere: in the fear of losing someone he loves, and in the self-destructive impulses he uses to manage that fear. The production, by Take A Daytrip, sits sparse and deliberate, letting the vocal sit exposed. The chorus returns obsessively to the image of mixing drugs to find oblivion, framed as a protective act. He'd rather die than see her harmed. It's a dark inversion of devotion, one that collapses the distance between love and self-annihilation. Across the verses he catalogs the trappings of success, expensive shoes, a new phone, a Rolex, with a tone caught between pride and disgust, as if material gain has only sharpened his sense of emptiness and the people around him as transactional. The song moves with the restlessness of someone trying to outrun his own mind.
