About This Track

'Contact' frames seduction as a pursuit conducted across the frictionless channels of modern life. Kaaris opens with the everyday frustration of digital courtship: daily Snapchat messages, failed attempts to meet up, chasing someone across Twitter. The refrain pivots on a double meaning, the key in the ignition a metaphor for starting an engine of desire. He wants to turn the key that will start her heart. The verses shift register entirely. Kaaris adopts the voice of someone operating in the margins, moving through the city in a tinted car, aware of police attention, speaking in the coded slang of the streets. The song moves between the intimate proposition of the chorus and the harder, more boastful terrain of the verses, where he positions himself as a figure of consequence despite or because of his precarity. Throughout, the production sits behind his voice with minimal interference, letting the lyrics and their rhythmic play carry the weight.
