About This Track
Kali Uchis wrote 'Killer' when she was 17, composing it in her Subaru Forester long before it appeared on this album. The track is a slow-burning indictment of betrayal, built on a gap between what the lyrics say and how they sound. Uchis sings about a lover who has destroyed their future together, someone whose deception makes them a "killer" in her eyes, yet the music beneath carries a dreamy, almost serene quality that undercuts the accusation. The song captures a particular kind of pain: the moment when you realise someone you trusted was never who you thought they were. Uchis juxtaposes vulnerability with clarity, moving from questions about how she missed the signs to a hard-edged recognition of what this person is. The repetition of the chorus drives the point home without melodrama, letting the contradiction between the music's gentleness and the lyrical content do the work.
"Killer" is a track by Kali Uchis, from the album Isolation, released 5th April 2018. The track is 2:52 long. It's filed under R&B/Soul. Full lyrics are available below. Dork has published 9 articles about Kali Uchis.
