About This Track

'Breakfast' by Kelis is a 2014 pop track from the album 'Food'. The lyrics are a heartfelt thank you to someone positioned as a steady friend, someone who stayed when it might have been easier to leave, and who is there when the narrator feels knocked down, even “all alone”. The repeated gratitude gives the song a devotional edge, framed as support and reassurance rather than romance alone.

"Breakfast" is a track by Kelis, from the album Food, released 16th April 2014. The track is 4:20 long. It's filed under Pop. Full lyrics are available below. Dork has published 1 article about Kelis.

Lyrics

Breakfast

I wanna say thank you (thank you)
You've been more than just a man
You've really been a friend
And I wanna say thank you (thank you)
You put me to the test
When I know you could've left me behind

When I feel like I'm knocked back off my feet
And I swear I'm all alone
You're the one who carries me
Simple things like giving me your peace
You're strong enough to be
Exactly what I need

This is the real thing
The real thing about us
Welcome to the world

This is the real thing
The real thing about us
Welcome to the world

Sometimes it's just so dark
And I can't see past my hand
But you're solid as a rock
You're everything I love
And I done all that I can
You told me still stand
When it's said and done
I am just what I am

So much of who we are
Is from who taught us how to love
So much of who we are
Is from who first taught us how to love

This is the real thing
The real thing about us
Welcome to the world

This is the real thing
The real thing about us
Welcome to the world

This is the real thing
The real thing about us
Welcome to the world

This is the real thing
The real thing about us
Welcome to the world

Maybe we'll make it til breakfast
Maybe we'll make it til breakfast
Maybe we'll make it til breakfast

This is the real thing
The real thing about us
Welcome to the world

This is the real thing
The real thing about us
Welcome to the world

This is the real thing
The real thing about us
Welcome to the world

This is the real thing
The real thing about us
Welcome to the world
