About This Track

Released as the lead single from Khalid's first EP 'Suncity' in September 2018, 'Better' became the El Paso singer's first solo top-ten single in the United States. The track also appeared on his second studio album 'Free Spirit', cementing its place in a catalogue that had already established him as one of R&B's most distinctive voices following his critically acclaimed 2017 debut 'American Teen'.

The song maps the contours of a relationship conducted in half-light, Khalid singing of meeting when needed, of hands around necks when nobody's around, of the gap between what's claimed in public and what happens in private. The production, handled by Stargate and John Hill, leaves space for the central refrain to land with quiet insistence: nothing feels better than this. It's a song about the pull of something unacknowledged, the high of connection that lifts feet from the ground, delivered with the kind of understated conviction that made Khalid's early work feel like overheard confession rather than performance.
