About This Track

Lady A builds 'Ocean' around an extended metaphor of emotional vulnerability and intimacy. The song frames a reluctant partner as an unknowable expanse, beautiful but resistant to closeness. The narrator positions herself as a lighthouse, offering constancy and care, but finds herself exhausted by the one-sidedness of it all. The central tension is simple: she wants to surrender completely, to "swim" in the relationship, but the waves keep her at the surface. The chorus pivots on a paradox. She claims she's unafraid to drown, to be taken under, yet the waves keep crashing in, keeping her from the depths she craves. It's a song about the particular pain of loving someone who cannot or will not let you in, no matter how much you offer. The bridge strips back to repetition, the waves returning again and again, a cycle of approach and rejection that wears at her resolve.
