About This Track

'Why' by LANY is a 2025 pop track from the album 'Soft'. The lyrics ask what the narrator will become with age and where they will end up, then pivot to a devotion that turns uncertainty into meaning, repeatedly framing the other person as the reason they believe in something like heaven and refuse to waste time. The tone is earnest and searching, with the song focused on questions that keep coming, answered by a single steady attachment, expressed in the line “You’re the why I think that there’s a heaven”.

"Why" is a track by LANY, from the album Soft, released 9th October 2025. The track is 3:21 long. It's filed under Pop. Full lyrics are available below.

Lyrics

Why

Who will I be when I'm older?
Where will I be when it ends?
How would it feel if I told ya
You're the only one making it make any sense
You're the why I think that there's a heaven
You're the why I never wanna go
You're the why I never waste a second
Asking questions I don't need to know
Like who holds the stars right where they are
What really happens when we die
No matter how it all plays out
As long as I am still alive
You're the why
You're the why
What did I do to deserve you?
How long are you gonna stay?
What if I swear I won't hurt you?
Do you think I could wake up with you every day?
Really nothing else matters to me anyway
You're the why I think that there's a heaven
You're the why I never wanna go (Go)
You're the why I never waste a second
Asking questions I don't need to know
Like who holds the stars right where they are
What really happens when we die
No matter how it all plays out
As long as I am still alive
You're the why
You're the why
You're the why
You're the why
It's because of you that I'm breathing
It's because of you that I'm still here
It's because of you, you're the reason
You make all the bad things disappear
You're the why I think that there's a heaven
You're the why I never wanna go
You're the why I never waste a second
Asking questions I don't need to know
Like who holds the stars right where they are
What really happens when we die
No matter how it all plays out
As long as I am still alive
You're the why
You're the why
You're the why
You're the why
