About This Track
Lido pairs trap-inflected production with a slowed sample of Jaden Smith's 'Fast' to build a track about restraint and recklessness. The instrumental sits low and patient, letting space breathe around the beat, whilst Halsey's vocal cuts through with the clarity of someone caught between wanting to stay and needing to leave. The chorus loops Smith's question like a warning: why move so quickly when the destination matters less than the damage done along the way. Halsey's two verses sketch a brief affair with the precision of someone who knows better. She moves between confession and self-awareness, naming the problem even as she inhabits it: a mistake, a flaw in the system, a girl waiting at home who deserves better. The song never resolves the tension between desire and duty. Instead it sits in the discomfort, letting the trap drums carry the weight of choices unmade and the speed that keeps you from having to think about them.
