About This Track

'We' opens with Thundercat's layered vocals, a soft bed of affirmation over which Mac Miller builds his case for togetherness. The track moves with a jazzy ease, its rhythm unhurried, its production spacious enough to let each voice breathe. Miller's delivery is conversational, almost confessional; he's not trying to convince so much as to articulate something he's already decided. The refrain settles the matter: "we" sounds better than "you" or "me". What emerges across the verses is a portrait of intimacy that's both physical and reflective. Miller dwells on small moments, the way a name is spoken, the posture of someone he admires, and larger uncertainties about what the future holds. There's no grand gesture here, no promise of forever. Instead, there's the quieter commitment of showing up, of choosing "we" as the operative pronoun. CeeLo Green's voice enters late, adding warmth to the chorus, and the whole thing settles into something that feels earned rather than assumed.

"We" is a track by Mac Miller, from the album The Divine Feminine, released 18th August 2016. Full lyrics are available below.

We

[Intro: Thundercat & Mac Miller]

Ooh, ah (Ooh)

Yeah, well, you could be my (Ooh)

Said you could be my (Ooh)

Yeah, you could be my (Ooh)

Yeah (Ooh), okay, well, you could be my (Ooh)

Baby, you could be my (Ooh)

Said, baby, you could be my (Ooh)

Yeah, uh, well, okay, it's alright, it's okay

[Chorus: Mac Miller & Thundercat]

Okay, well, you could be my (Boo)

Well, okay, it's alright, it's okay

You could be my (Boo)

Yeah, well, okay, it's alright, it's okay

Said you could be my (Boo)

Well, okay, it's alright, it's okay

Said you could be my (Boo)

[Verse 1: Mac Miller]

Well, you ain't in the mood to argue

Baby, don't you worry, this some shit to get along to

Some shit I right my wrongs to

Well, I've tried to call you, have us a discussion

We never talk, we always way too busy fuckin'

I'll think of somethin' to say, I always do

I'm in love with the way that you say my name

Every time it sound brand new

[Refrain: Mac Miller]

And you always wonderin' what we'll be

I say "we" sound better than "you" or "me"

[Chorus: Mac Miller & Thundercat]

Baby, you could be my (Boo, woo)

Well, okay, it's alright (Yeah), it's okay

I feel like you could be my (Boo)

Well, okay, it's alright, it's okay

And I can be your (Boo)

Well, okay, it's alright, it's okay

Only if you be my (Boo)

It's alright, it's okay

[Verse 2: Mac Miller]

Yeah, okay

And time will tell if I'm alive and well, 'cause when I'm by myself

I find that I keep flyin' high, sometimes I must remind myself

That change is more than pennies layin' on the floor inside the well

You cross my mind, do not apologize for bein' fine as hell

I'm spinnin' here inside your spell

My mind, it start to wander

Miss a day, I stay up late admirin' your posture

[Refrain: Mac Miller]

And you always wonderin' what we'll be

I say "we" sound better than "you" or "me"

[Chorus: Mac Miller, Thundercat & CeeLo Green]

Baby, you could be my (Boo, ah), yeah

Okay, it's alright, it's okay

And, baby, you could be my (Boo, ah)

Well, okay, it's alright, it's okay

And I can be your (Boo, ah)

Okay, it's alright (Yeah), it's okay

Only if you be my (Boo, ah)

[Bridge: CeeLo Green]

Ah, ah (Oh), ah, ah (Ooh)

Ah (Yeah), ah, ah (Oh), ah (Yes)

[Verse 3: CeeLo Green]

There's no more "you" or "me," we are "we," yes, we are

(Yes, we are, sweet baby)

And I can see, I can see, so much better (I can see)

And carefully, precious things fall apart

Just let them be, let it be, forever, ooh

Lovin' me in spite of me, bless your heart (Bless your heart)

I can breathe, I can breathe so much better (Yeah)

I won't let anything tear us apart, no, no, no

We are "we," we are "we," forever

[Interlude: CeeLo Green]

Mm-hmm, oh, mm-mm

Ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh

[Chorus: Mac Miller, Thundercat & CeeLo Green]

You could be my (Boo, ah)

Okay, it's alright (Yeah), it's okay ([?] baby, yeah)

I feel like you could be my (Boo, ah)

Well, okay, it's alright, it's okay

And I can be your (Boo, ah)

Well, okay, it's alright, it's okay

Only if you be my (Boo, ah)

It's alright, it's okay

[Outro: CeeLo Green]

You gotta deal with Mac Miller, bitch

Hehehehahah
