About This Track

'405' by Metronomy is a 2021 track from 'Posse EP Volume 1'. The lyrics centre on an intimate car ride memory, with the narrator fixated on a partner’s singing, their bright, reflective gaze, and the feeling that time has stopped. In the verse, they “put my head on a pillow” and watch the other person in the mirror, while the pre-chorus turns into an uneasy admission that they may have been overlooking affection right in front of them.

"405" is a track by Metronomy, from the album Posse EP Volume 1, released 15th September 2021. Full lyrics are available below. Dork has published 20 articles about Metronomy.

Lyrics

405

[Verse 1]

Put my head on a pillow and I watch

You singing "Blue Moon" on the drive home

You smiled in the mirror with those bright eyes

And you froze time, you're an old soul

[Pre-Chorus]

How'd I miss the sweetest gaze

All those times you looked my way?

I don't know

[Chorus]

'Cause I ran off in the wrong direction

Looking for love when you were stood right there

Under my nose

[Verse 2]

You gave me your sweater in the late day

Watching rain pour, then you came in close

You taste like vanilla and your hand's soft

Holding my cheek, you're an angel

[Pre-Chorus]

How'd I ever lose my way

With all those times you called my name?

I don't know

[Chorus]

'Cause I ran off in the wrong direction

Looking for love when you were stood right there

Under my nose

'Cause I ran off in the wrong direction

Looking for love when you were stood right there

Under my nose

[Bridge]

'Cause suddenly, it's all I want

To keep you safe, away from harm

To make it easy

Don't you believe me?

'Cause suddenly it's all I want

To keep you safe, away from harm

To make it easy

Don't you believe me?

[Chorus]

('Cause suddenly it's all I want)

'Cause I ran off in the wrong direction

(To keep you safe, away from harm)

Looking for love when you were stood right there

(To make it easy)

Under my nose

(Don't you believe me?)

('Cause suddenly it's all I want)

'Cause I ran off in the wrong direction

(To keep you safe, away from harm)

Looking for love when you were stood right there

(To make it easy)

Under my nose

(Don't you believe me?)

[Outro]

Under my nose

(Under my nose)

Under my nose

Bands release albums and then tour, right? It’d be crazy to drop one of the hits of the summer and then… take a break?

Metronomy - Summer 08

A great record that is let down at points by some bang average songs.
