About This Track

A love song built on doubt, 'Madness' finds Muse stripping back to electronic minimalism. Matthew Bellamy's voice sits high and clean over a restrained beat, the production letting space do the work. The song circles a single question: is this real love, or just compulsion keeping two people locked together? It's a rare moment of vulnerability from the band, the lyrics catching the specific vertigo of not knowing whether you're in crisis or connection. The track moves with surprising restraint. Where Muse often reach for spectacle, here the arrangement stays lean, the harmonies swelling just enough to suggest the emotional weight beneath. A guitar solo cuts through the bridge with precision. The repetition of "I need your love" becomes less a declaration than an admission of need, the word "madness" itself the only answer Bellamy can offer to his own question.

"Madness" is a single by Muse, from the album The 2nd Law, released 25th September 2012. The track is 4:40 long. It's filed under Alternative. Full lyrics are available below. Dork has published 20 articles about Muse.

Lyrics

Madness

I, I can't get these memories out of my mind
And some kind of madness has started to evolve
And I, I tried so hard to let you go
But some kind of madness is swallowing me whole, yeah

I have finally seen the light
And I have finally realized what you mean

And now I need to know, is this real love?
Or is it just madness keeping us afloat? Hmm
And when I look back at all the crazy fights we've had
Like some kind of madness was taking control, yeah

Now, I have finally seen the light
And I have finally realized what you need

But now I have finally seen the end
(Finally seen the end)
And I'm not expecting you to care, no
(Expecting you to care)
That I have finally seen the light
(Finally seen the light)
And I have finally realized
(Realized)

I need your love
I need your love

Come to me, just in a dream
Come on and rescue me
Yes, I know I can be wrong
And maybe you're too headstrong
Our love is
Madness
