About This Track
A mid-breakup accounting from the Welsh pop-punk band's second album, with the narrator replaying unanswered calls and imagining his ex moving on in the city whilst he stares out the window at passing traffic. The lyric maps the geography of regret: Chicago as distant possibility, the west coast as escape route, the cold as immediate reality. Neck Deep frame the emotional wreckage in seasonal terms, the title month standing in for isolation and the slow work of getting over someone who has already moved on. Mark Hoppus from Blink-182 lends backing vocals, his presence a quiet nod to the lineage the band draw from. The song builds its case through accumulation rather than volume, the chorus cycling through wished-for futures for the ex and the narrator's own blackout on the floor. The bridge concedes the lesson learned after a year of suffering, though the specificity of the hurt stays sharp throughout.
