About This Track

'Rock' finds Olamide in a mood of easy affection. The track opens with a simple proposition: he wants to vibe with his subject, to chill like ice water, to spend his money on her. There's no grand gesture here, just a man stating his case with the kind of restrained confidence that comes from knowing what he wants. His delivery sits somewhere between rap and sung melody, unhurried and conversational, whilst the production carries hints of shoegaze texture beneath the rhythm. The song's logic is disarmingly straightforward. He doesn't need her to perform or prove herself; she already has his attention. A line about not chasing broke men, a comparison to Marilyn Monroe, a reference to Michael Jackson's 'Thriller' as shorthand for cool, these are the tools of seduction here, playful rather than pushy. The chorus repeats its central request with the kind of persistence that suggests he's genuinely interested in what comes next, not just the conquest itself. Throughout, Olamide balances boastfulness with something closer to vulnerability, a man who admits he's falling even as he maintains his swagger.
