About This Track

Released a week ahead of One Direction's third album 'Midnight Memories' in November 2013, 'Diana' addresses a figure caught in the glare of public attention. The lyric adopts the voice of someone speaking across a distance, offering support to a person whose image fills the front pages but whose isolation remains acute. One Direction frame the gesture as mutual rescue rather than one-sided intervention. The chorus pivots on the repeated offer to light a fire and lift a heart, the narrator insisting that the act of saving another might equally save themselves. The song debuted at number two on the Irish Singles Chart the day after release, a week before the parent album arrived.
