About This Track

Orelsan returns after six months of isolation with a track that announces itself as a portrait of arrested development and deliberate provocation. '2010' is a single verse of boastful self-sabotage: he has spent half a year watching anime, he compares himself to a cyborg, he threatens to corrupt children more effectively than the Catholic Church. The production, credited to Skread, sits somewhere between retro-futurism and straightforward hip-hop bombast, letting the voice occupy centre stage. The lyrics move between genuine self-awareness and calculated offence. Orelsan acknowledges his reputation for toxicity whilst claiming he would rather work at McDonald's than adopt the earnestness of more commercially palatable rappers. He speaks from Caen, he has carried a weight since adolescence, he prefers to stay himself even if it costs him. Beneath the aggression and the crude sexual boasting runs a thread of resignation: his defeats have become his finest victories, and he has made peace with being disliked. It is a performance of unrepentance that somehow earns a kind of honesty.

"2010" is a track by OrelSan, from the album Le chant des sirènes, released 26th September 2011. Full lyrics are available below.

[Intro]

Hé Skread ! Balance cette merde rétro-futuriste !

[Couplet unique]

Konichiwa ! J’suis d’retour, depuis six mois, j’m’isole

On m’a dit : "Tais-toi, nettoie"

Quand j’suis sur scène, j’veux t’entendre crier : "Orelsan !"

Quand j’baise, j’veux t’entendre crier : "Orelsan !"

J’me lève à 15h, j’relis, j’trouve ça nul à chier

Le rap j’le quitterai, d'la même façon qu'j'l'ai kiffé

Mon nom à moi c’est "Orelsan" : oui, tu l’as deviné

[Pont]
