Palace's 'Bitter' traces the emotional wreckage of a relationship built on false promises and performative reassurance. Leo Wyndham sings of a lover who demands constant validation while offering none in return, someone who breaks faith repeatedly yet expects to be believed. The song moves between accusation and self-awareness: he recognises his own complicity, the masks he wears to keep the peace, the way he manufactures confidence to meet impossible demands. The track builds its tension through repetition and restraint. Wyndham's voice sits close to the mix, intimate and worn, whilst the production stays measured and controlled, letting the lyrical weight do the work. The chorus arrives as a kind of exhausted reckoning, asking why he remains trapped in a cycle of betrayal and false hope, why he keeps letting himself be led astray. There is no cathartic release here, only the grim acknowledgment that things might improve, that he might one day stop hearing the same empty promises.
